Polished Shattuckite with Malachite
|
Collection |
Robert Lavinsky |
Description |
An old-time, highly aesthetic specimen of Shattuckite from Ajo that came out of the Smithsonian, and still has the old label with it. The specimen is polished to show off its superb color. Shattuckite is a relatively rare copper silicate, which is why you do not see specimens like this around. It is here associated with Malachite and other copper minerals. This specimen passed from the Smithsonian into the Dr. Gary Hansen Collection quite awhile back, and thence to Rob Lavinsky when he bought that collection. This specimen is surely more than 50 years old. |
